The Centre operates on the weekends including Friday & Saturday nights.
Right Now:
The temporary Youth Centre opened in Grassy Road in November 2001 and has been fairly well attended most of the time. Naturally, the kids get bored if things don't change fairly regular and attempts have been made to keep change happening.
The Norfolk Island Youth Assembly did an excellent survey at the end of the last School term and focussed it on whether the kids would support a new Youth Centre if a building was erected. They had a great response, mostly positive from all the relevant age groups.
The kids have asked for more discos and movie nights. It is hoped that the new building will be commenced this year. (written 24 Jan 2003)
The Youth Centre is run by volunteers based on two hour shifts, some of which require up to three people at a time being there.
Membership cards have been introduced and all kids need to have one to gain entry to the Centre. It costs $20.00 per year.
