The Norfolk Island Police provides a professional Police and ancillary service for the
Norfolk Island community in accordance with arrangements between the Australian Federal
Police and the Norfolk Island Administration. The Norfolk Island Police perform a range of
services:
- the protection of persons and property.
- crime prevention and detection.
- investigation of offences or suspected offences against the laws of the Commonwealth.
- maintenance of peace and good order.
- enforcement of enactments.
- the development and maintenance of community needs in the provision of police services.
- motor vehicle driver licence testing.
- the service and execution of civil process as the Bailiff of the Court of Petty Sessions
or the Sheriff of the Supreme Court.
- traffic co-ordination.
- the inspection of firearms and issue of gun licences.
- verification of applicants and supervision of liquor licence holders and licensed
premises.
- assistance to Immigration as authorised officers.
- the operation of the Periodic Detention Centre.
- Dog Control.
- assistance to National Park Rangers.
